With these awards BABT continues our mission of preserving and protecting public access to stables and trails in the Bay Area.
Since our inception, BABT has granted approximately $505,000 to help keep barns, trails and programs available to equestrians. Below are grants that have helped build and preserve access throughout the Bay Area!

Fall 2024
Access Adventure: A grant from BABT is helping to provide equipment to maintain the publicly accessible trails and equestrian areas at Rush Ranch.
Alma Equine: A BABT grant is helping to provide a scholarship fund to 3 students for 2 months, exposing youth with limited financial resources to trail riding.
California Riding Club: A grant from BABT will help sponsor a year-long, weekly riding club membership for two underprivileged children.
Giant Steps: Funding from BABT will help build a transportable wheelchair accessible mounting block for a pilot trail ride program on public lands.
Marin Stables and Trails: Materials and labor for environmental improvements between the paddocks and seasonal creek to minimize stable and horse debris from entering the creek.
Sonoma Ecology Center: Trail maintenance equipment at Sugarloaf Ridge State Park for the trail teams and volunteers.
Stewards of the Coast and Redwoods: Tools for use by the volunteer trail crew for work at Armstrong Redwoods SNR & Austin Creek SRA to make the trails accessible to equestrians and other users.
Spring 2024
Alma Equine: Funding for a two month scholarship for three students with limited financial resources. This program includes a trail riding and environmental component.
East Bay Hills Benefit Ride & Hike: Matching funds for trail improvements and event support.
Halleck Creek Ranch: Funding to support 6 students, from under-resourced households, for 1 week of summer camp with a trail riding component.
Point Reyes National Seashore: Funding to help send 2 rangers from the Pt. Reyes Morgan Horse Ranch to the Western States Mounted Patrol training.
Ridge to Bridge: Event support for the Ridge Trail’s fundraiser.
Linda Rubio Scholarship: Funding to help provide 6 weekly trail riding lessons to financially disadvantaged youth.
Skyline Wilderness Park: Funding to purchase and install metal pipe paddock panels to expand the number of paddocks and horse camping capacity at SkyLine Wilderness Park.
Square Peg Foundation: Funding to support environmental improvements to the pasture and shelter. This facility accesses public trails.
Tri-Cities Horsemen: Funding for building improvements to the Radke/Waterfront Equestrian Arena facility. This facility is open to public access.
V-O-Cal: Funding for trail work improvements to the Canyon Trail at Fernandez Ranch/Franklin Canyon in Martinez.

Fall 2023
Alma Equine: Funding to help sponsor 2 months of weekly 1.5 hour therapeutic trail sessions for 3 students with special needs and limited financial support.
Caring Cowgirl: Help with funding a series of 6 horsepersonship lessons for families with limited resources.
East Bay Hills Ride and Hike: Matching grant for event support, with the use of funds going toward multi-use trail projects or equestrian staging.
Equestrian Center of Walnut Creek: Funding to help repair the Tractor & Storage shed.
Marin Stables & Trails: Flood mitigation repairs.
Point Reyes National Seashore Mounted Patrol: Funding to help send 2 rangers/horses to the Western States Mounted Patrol Officer training in Norco, CA.
Spring 2023
Ridge to Bridge 2023: Funding to help support the Ridge Trail’s annual event.
San Mateo Mounted Patrol Foundation / Sheriff’s Activity League: 3 sessions of youth riding activities.
San Mateo Mounted Patrol Foundation / Pescadero Creek County Park: Storm related repairs enabling equestrians to ride from Jack Brook to other trails in the park.
Stewards of the Coast and Redwoods: Help with funding for equipment and supplies needed for volunteers to link 2 trails where they connect to regain equestrian access and reopen Austin Creek SRA.
V-O-Cal: Funding for 3 multi-use trail improvement projects.

Fall 2022
East Bay Hills Ride Event support/matching funds. Beneficiaries will include the Ridge Trail, V-O-Cal, the Ivan Dickson program, and trail and equestrian projects of the Tilden Wildcat and Metropolitan Horsemens’ Association.
Halleck Creek Ranch To help fund the development of the Little Six Trail, an additional section of trail with sensory stations to challenge special riders.
BABT’s Trails Challenge Marin County was the winner of our $2,500 grant for trail improvements. The funds will go toward rebuilding the bridges on the Old Springs trail in Southern Marin’s GGNRA. Old Springs is on the equestrian route for the Ridge Trail’s Ridge to Bridge event that BABT co-sponsors annually so it is a very fitting location.
We Ride Too To help fund the continuation of horse encounters with youth in the Oakland Redwoods at the Sequoia Arena.
Spring 2022
Bay Area Ridge Trail: Co-sponsor of the Ridge to Bridges event.
San Mateo Mounted Patrol Foundation & Sheriff’s Activity League: Program support to sponsor 3 two day sessions of youth horse riding activities at Wunderlich Park with Chaparral Ranch.
Volunteers for Outdoor California: Volunteer support and trail improvements at 3 of these locations – Napa’s Moore Creek, Santa Clara’s Sanborn Park, Solano Land Trust’s Patwino Worrtla Kodoi Dihi Open Space and Painted Rock in John Muir Land Trust.
We Ride Too: Program support – BABT funds will help support 5 equestrian sessions for a group of 10-15 youth.

Fall 2021
San Mateo County Regional Parks Foundation: Funding to re-rocking a section of the Upper Clarkia Trail in Edgewood Natural Preserve to increase trail user safety.
Stewards of the Coast and Redwoods: Equipment and supplies to help to rehabilitate 10 miles of fire damaged trails in Austin Creek SRA and Armstrong Woods SNR.
Tilden Wildcat Horsemen’s Association: Matching grant for the East Bay Hills Trails Benefit multi-use annual event for equestrians and hikers. Funds will go toward trail projects or equestrian staging.
Town of Woodside: Funding for labor and materials required for stabilization of slope, drainage infrastructure, tree removal, trail surfacing on the Mountain Home Road Trail extension.
BABT Trails Challenge: Congratulations to San Mateo County for the most miles logged and winning a $2500 multi-use trail improvement grant! Bay Area Barns and Trails (BABT) is communicating with San Mateo County Parks Foundation to determine a suitable project.

Bay Area Ridge Trail – Co-sponsor of the Ridge to Bridge event.
Diablo Equestrian Heritage Association – Trail obstacle training course to increase safety by exposing horses to obstacles that may be found on the trail.

Daily Acts: Workshop with Alayne Bickle to teach water quality and best practices for equestrian and confined animal facilities.
Halleck Creek Ranch : Halleck Creek Ranch: Gutters and French drain to filter and divert contaminated water away from the creek.
Marin Stables and Trails: Culvert replacement across the creek.

NCEFT: Funding for trail construction at NCEFT’s facility in Woodside.
Access Adventure: Funding to build a shade structure over hitching area near the wheelchair ramp & platform.
Ocean Riders of Marin: Matching grant for drainage and construction of a covered arena.
Rincon Riders: Continued drainage work and planting trees to protect the land & make it an all weather facility.
TWHA: East Bay Hills Trails Benefit Ride. This event benefits the Bay Area Ridge Trail, V-O-Cal and other East Bay trail projects.
V-O-Cal: Multi-use trail improvement projects at Livermore Sycamore Grove Park, Mt. Diablo State Park and East Avenue Park in Hayward.

Rincon Riders, Santa Rosa: Support to address drainage and environmental concerns. This facility was damaged in the 2017 fires.
Tilden Wildcat Horseman’s Association: Support for East Bay Hills Benefit Ride Event. This event benefits the Bay Area Ridge Trail Council, Volunteers for Outdoor California, and other East Bay trail projects.
Volunteers for Outdoor California: Skyline Wilderness Park: Trail building. This V-O-Cal project had 100+ volunteers! Among other things, these hard workers built a rock wall and constructed 800 feet of new trail that replaced an old section of the Skyline Trail prone to flooding and erosion.
Volunteers for Outdoor California: Shiloh Ranch Regional Park: Trail building. This V-O-Cal project re-routed a section of trail damaged during the 2017 fires. Hot and hard work, the temperatures reached the low 100’s in the afternoon. Thank you to all who helped!

Marin Stables & Trails: To assist with expanding and covering the round pen, with the goal of increasing community outreach programs and environmental improvements to the creek.
Ocean Riders of Marin: Improvements for re-grading the turnout arena and moving the fence-line, for the protection of the local Redwood Crek watershed and to allow for the future Dias “safety connector” trail. We congratulate Ocean Riders on their new 10 year lease with the GGNRA! There is much work to be done, please help support Ocean Riders.
Oakland City Stables: Facility improvement grant for manure bunkers. You can assist in their effort to support the renovation of Oakland City Stables. They are working away and need your support to renew this incredible jewel in the Oakland Hills!
San Mateo County Parks Foundation: Replace the retaining wall and improve trail conditions near the junction of the Alambique and Loop Trails in Wunderlich County Park.
Tilden Wildcat Horsemen’s Association: Matching funds to help support the East Bay Hills Trails Benefit Ride, which supports the Bay Area Ridge Trail and volunteer trail maintenance on East Bay multi-use trails.
Trail Partners: Educational campaign and safety awareness for equestrians, bikers and hikers on public lands in Marin – Tails and Tires workshops.
Volunteers for Outdoor California: To construct a new multi-use trail at Franklin Canyon, connecting to the Bay Area Ridge Trail in Fernandez Ranch and Pinole Watershed, benefiting the local and regional community.
Alto Bowl Horse Owners Association: $2500 for Horse Hill water project.
